Company - History
It was in the 19 century when the first factory was established. A small place where the turron were produced to supply all of the market stalls that could be found in the local festivals across Spain. At that time, people involved in the turron trade were also producers, businessmen, stallholders and retailers.
Our family business had a stall in Santander's local festival which was the most important local festival for the turron trade. Later the stall was named with the fundator's name Emilia Monerris Monerris and is nowadays still known by the same name.
At that time, the turron was sold in shops and on the street, as perfectly depicted in a lithography painting from the painter Isisdro Nonell in Barcelona at the beginning of the century. The picture shows that the turron was not sold in packaged bars but in bulk and at retail, a tradition that the company Enrique Garrigós Monerris has restored with success and in order to create unique turron by giving the clients the chance to choose it and take it home at Christmas.
Between innovation and tradition
The innovation policy has characterized the company from its beginning. As an example the tortas that were developed by Enrique Garrigós Monerris, are still available today, being the most profitable in the market.
The constant innovation plans of the company have allowed the launching of new products which have revolutionized the sector with its originality, for example, the product line “el maestro turronero” by Martín Berasategui. This is a new concept that gathers the tradition in the turron production with the new guidelines in cooking, lead by one of the most outstanding international cooks who has been granted with 6 Michelín stars. This product line has already achieved the highest standard of quality in five products: Jijona, Alicante, Yema Tostada, Chocolate with almonds and Tortas de Alicante.
The commitment of the company and its workers is nowadays strengthened and together with cutting edge technology available in the market, results in the business moving forward without losing the tradition of producing quality turron.
